Daily Do Good: VA Family Finds Close To $1M In Road & Turns It In

A Virginia family wanted a change of scenery after being cooped up at home, so they went for a drive. While joyriding, David and Emily Schantz and their kids drove over a bag, which they thought was full of garbage. They stopped and picked it up, tossing that bag and another one nearby in the back of their pickup truck.

When they got home, the family discovered the bags were actually full of money. Emily says inside the bag were plastic baggies labeled “cash vault.” They called the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office and deputies came out and determined there was nearly $1-million in cash.

Caroline Sheriff’s Major Scott Moser says they’ve since figured out where the money was heading, but they’re still trying to figure out how it ended up in the middle of the road. He says he hopes the family gets a nice reward for their good deed, adding, “They saved someone a lot of money and set a wonderful example for everyone else.”
