A bill introduced in the Alabama House yesterday would require men who reach a certain age to undergo a vasectomy.
The bill's sponsor, Democratic Representative Rolanda Hollis of Birmingham, says it would mandate that once a man in Alabama reaches the age of 50, or he fathers three children, whichever comes first, he get a vasectomy.
Hollis says the 'Family Planning Bill' is in response to the legislature's passage of a bill outlawing nearly all abortions in the state last year. She explains “The vasectomy bill is to help with he reproductive system, and yes, it is to neutralize the abortion ban bill ... it always takes two to tango. We can’t put all the responsibility on women. Men need to be responsible also.”
