Duncan Elliot was in the middle of a shift at the J&H Family Store and Gas Station outside of Alto, Michigan when he got sick. He called his boss for help and called an ambulance and the firefighters who arrived at the scene first ended up looking after Duncan until EMTs arrived and they filled in until a back-up employee showed up.
The Alto-Browne Fire Department’s team Captain, Deputy Fire Chief, and two other firefighters took the sick cashiers place until other staff arrived. These guys took over the register and helped customers, even though it’s a little outside their job description.
Firefighter Captain Chris Wieland says he “felt it was the right thing to do” and an easy decision for them to make in that moment.
