People Who Drink Tea Regularly Have Longer And Healthier Lives, Study Finds

If you’re a coffee drinker who never fills your mug with anything else, you may want to consider switching to tea now and then. There are all kinds of health benefits to sipping tea and according to new research, a longer and healthier life is one of them.

For the study, researchers at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences analyzed health surveys of close to 101,000 people, including habitual tea drinkers - those who drink tea three or more times a week. They tracked the participants for about seven years and the results show habitual tea drinkers have a 39% lower risk of heart disease and stroke and a 56% lower risk of dying from either.

So drinking tea at least three times a week is linked to longevity and better overall health, but what kind of tea is best? Study authors say green tea is linked to lower chances of heart disease, stroke, and death from all causes. The same benefits weren’t found in black tea, because it isn’t as high in polyphenols.
