DDG: Comedian Raises Over $20M For Australia’s Unpaid Firefighters

While wildfires continue to ravage Australia, one woman is raising millions for the country’s unpaid firefighters battling the blazes. Australian comedian Celeste Barber started a Facebook fundraiser four days ago and it’s brought in over $22-million so far, with donations pouring in from all over the world.

Barber went viral in 2015 for her now long-running series where she recreates celebrities’ Instagram posts and now she’s using her 6.5 million Instagram followers to help others. She’s asking for donations for The Trustee for NSW Rural Fire Service & Brigades Donations Fund - this is the largest volunteer firefighting service in the world with more than 70,000 volunteers.

“Someone needed to do something and the people did something,” Barber says.
