Christopher Cox has practically lived at the gym, spending six days a week there to train in gymnastics. The Texas teen’s hard work paid off and earned him a spot on the University of Oklahoma Men’s Gymnastics team, but then a freak accident changed everything.
Last month, the 18-year-old fell at a friend’s house and suffered a spinal cord injury that left him partially paralyzed. His community in Katy, Texas has rallied behind Cox and his family, showing their support and hosting a fundraiser to help with his medical expenses.
Since then, Cox has been training with different goals in mind. “Right now, my main goal is to get my hands working,” he explains. "An accomplishment today is I can lift my hand off my wheelchair arm, which is nice.”
