An alumni group in one South Carolina school district is helping to pay off school lunch debt for current students. Jean Deese, a former student in the Fort Mill School District, is part of theOl' School Crowd, a group of former students who are raising money to cover the balance owed to the district, which is about $12,000.
Each of the schools in the district has an Angel Fund that community members can donate to and lower the balances. Deese, who helped start the debt relief effort, says their group has been collecting donations for about two years and so far they’ve raised over $5,000. “Any amount helps,” she explains. “It’s a great thing to help the students. I’m proud to be a part of it.”
