A fire has broken out at a Philadelphia cooperative refinery with explosions being felt as far away as South Jersey.
The massive fire erupted at the Philadelphia Energy Solutions refinery early this morning. Several explosions have been reported with debris raining down on some South Philadelphia neighborhoods. Some towns in South Jersey shook during the explosions. Firefighters are on scene and have shut down I-76 and the Platt Bridge as well as other roadways.
The plume of smoke has blanketed most of Center City and South Philadelphia. There’s no word on injuries yet. The refinery employs about one thousand people, but it isn’t known how many were on site when the inferno broke out.
