Study: Sleeping With Artificial Light Can Make Women Gain Weight

here’s more potentially bad news about sleep and how it affects women.

If you like drifting off to sleep with the glow of a TV or other device… turn it off or you may gain weight. Seriously. Turns out, sleeping with a television on or other artificial light is associated with weight gain among women.

New research shows that women who slept with a light or a television on were 17-percent more likely to have gained at least eleven pounds over the course of five years. Those who slept with just a small nightlight or no light showed no significant weight gain.

It’s all about the circadian rhythm being disturbed and the hormone melatonin being suppressed. Basically, any blue light is bad for a slew of different reasons. The research is published in JAMA Internal Medicine.
