We recently told you about Jessica Anderson, a nurse who ran the London Marathon, hoping to break the Guinness World Record for fastest female marathon runner wearing a nurses uniform. She beat the previous record-holder’s time, but because she was wearing scrubs - which is what she actually wears to work - and not a dress, apron, and traditional nurse’s cap as the Guinness rules stated, she was told her world record attempt was void.
Anderson was upset and so were many other people around the world and that outrage helped lead to Guinness changing their mind. They’ve overturned the decision because of the backlash and have awarded her the title she deserved. “It has become quite clear to Guinness World Records that our guidelines for the fastest marathon wearing a nurse’s uniform were outdated, incorrect and reflected a stereotype we do not in any way wish to perpetuate,” explains Samantha Fay, the company’s vice-president.
