Bella Smith is a third-grader with a big heart who’s wants to make sure none of the other students at her school miss out on celebrating their birthdays. She attends Wyan-Pine Elementary School in Kentucky, it’s a Title 1 School, which means that 80% of the families are low income. So when one of her classmates told Bella that his family couldn’t afford to have a party for his birthday, she was inspired to start “Bella’s Boxes.”
The nine-year-old fills her “birthday boxes” with all the essentials for a celebration: cake mix, frosting, sprinkles, balloons, and party hats. Then she passes them along to the school’s Family Resource Center to be distributed to families in need. Bella gets all the supplies to create the boxes through donations from community members and even asked for box donations instead of presents for her own birthday.
"I thank God for the opportunity for letting me be able to shine my light and show that I love my neighbor," she says.
