The Humane Society is trying to stop a Michigan laboratory from continuing its alleged practice of force feeding harmful fungicides to beagles. They say the discovery was made last year in an undercover investigation of the Charles River Laboratories in Mattawan. The lab conducted tests for more than 25 companies, including Dow Chemicals. The activist organization says the beagles suffered for months from terrible symptoms before being killed when the studies ended. Dow issued a statement saying the tests were required, and an important part of understanding disease and drug safety. The Humane Society has started a petition to free 36 more dogs that are involved in the current fungicide experiment.
