Sheriff Chad Chronister says deputy Terry Strawn killed his wife, daughter and 6-year-old granddaughter in their homes yesterday before taking his own life outside Plant City High School. What led up to the incident is not clear, but while the deputy was using his radio to alert dispatchers about the incident, he mentioned having financial and health problems.
The deputy retired two years ago, but then came back to the department after the Parkland school massacre as a school resource officer.
Chronister said the department will begin suicide prevention and awareness programs for all personnel beginning in January 2019. Yesterday’s murder-suicide is the second involving an HCSO deputy since September.
