Daily Do Good: Community Replaces Girl’s Stolen Wheelchair

A Tuscon girl had her wheelchair stolen on Halloween night, which was a trick that left her with no way to get around. But her community stepped up to help and treated 12-year-old Millie Chavez to a new set of wheels.

Millie has epilepsy and cerebral palsy, so without her wheelchair, she can’t ride the bus to school or do her other normal activities. So her mom, Monika Chavez, wrote a Facebook post about Millie’s missing chair, explaining that it’s a custom piece of equipment and not easy to replace.

Within hours, the post was shared over 1,000 times. Locals were determined to get Millie’s stolen wheels back or get her a new wheelchair. And Friday, the very next day, the little girl was given a stroller to help her get around and a check for a new custom wheelchair. Now that’s coming together for a good cause.
