Residents of the United Kingdom town of Ipswich have been getting spooked almost every night by the eerie sound of the nursery rhyme “It’s Raining, It’s Pouring” playing in the distance. One mom had the stone to complain - and upon investigating, officials found that it’s been coming from a loudspeaker. Here's where it gets creepier.
Turns out, it's a trespasser deterrent system...that's been getting set off by spiders. “The sound is only supposed to act as a deterrent for opportunistic thieves that come onto our property," says a spokesperson for the worksite. "It’s designed to only be heard by people on our private land.”
How are spiders involved? Apparently, the teeny critters have been triggering motion sensors, which set the songs off. The company says they're making adjustments and turning the volume down.
- As for the unnamed mom who complained? She's glad someone believes her. “I’m looking forward to finally getting some actually sleep from now on,” she offers. “Last week it played for hours, it was just horrible.”
