Curious onlookers and picture takers are being blamed for the death of a moose that drowned in Lake Champlain. The moose apparently swam across the lake from New York on Saturday and reached South Hero. However, Vermont wildlife officials say the moose apparently ran back into the water when onlookers approached, and eventually became exhausted and drowned. Wildlife officers were bringing a boat to the scene in an effort to rescue the struggling moose when it went under.
