Daily Do Good: Dozens Of Officers Escort Son Of Fallen Officer On First Day

The first day of school can be emotional for kids and parents alike, but this year, it was especially hard for Aaron Allan Jr. His first day of kindergarten last year was the same day his father, Lieutenant Aaron Allan, was killed in the line of duty. So when he started first grade this week, officers who worked with his father came to escort him to school.

Dozens of police officers from the City of Southport Police Department in Indiana came to Aaron Jr.’s house, lining his street with squad cars. They left their lights on and the sirens off. Aaron Jr and his mom rode with Southport Police Chief Tom Vaughn.

“Aaron is never going to be forgotten,” Vaughn says, “And they are part of a family that’s always going to be with them. No matter what, we’ll be here.”
