An Ohio fifth grader is being hailed as a hero after her quick thinking helped save her family from a late-night house fire in Springfield Township. Late last Wednesday evening, 10-year-old Logan DeLuca woke up and spotted flames burning near the foot of her five-year-old sister's bed after a night light sparked a fire.
Logan quickly woke her sister, alerted her stepfather, and then woke her mother while the rest of the family was still asleep. Her stepfather rushed the burning mattress outside before the fire could spread, and the family safely evacuated with Logan's younger siblings until firefighters arrived.
Fortunately, everyone escaped without injury. Logan is crediting school fire drills with helping her stay calm during the emergency. Her mother says the family is incredibly grateful for her daughter's courage, calling the girl "our hero."
