Casey Kaufhold, a native of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, has secured her first Olympic medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The 20-year-old archer, along with her teammate Brady Ellison, won the bronze medal in the mixed team archery event on Friday. The duo defeated India's Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara, with Kaufhold's final shot securing the medal for the U.S. team. The pair won the match 6-2.
Kaufhold and Ellison had earlier won two other matches to earn a shot at the bronze medal. They defeated Uzbekistan 6-2 in the first round and knocked off Japan 5-3 in the quarterfinals before falling 5-3 to Germany in the semifinals.
According to Fox43, this is Kaufhold's first Olympic medal, although she has won numerous other medals and accolades around the world, including women's individual and team gold medals at the 2024 Pan American Championships in Medellin, Colombia.
Kaufhold, who trains at the Lancaster Archery Academy, is currently the No. 1-ranked recurved bow women's archer in the world. This is her second Olympics, having made her debut at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
