St. Michael the Archangel Catholic High School has a new “Director of Love and Hospitality” and he’s only four-months-old. Mike, an Australian Shepherd/Bichon mix puppy has been given the gig at the newly opened school in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
School principal Josie Maddox says Mike is there to help students learn how to work independently and how to be respectful. The pup lives with Maddox and goes to school every day, with peer mentors learning how to care for him.
The students love having Mike around. He’s learning how to interact with them and he brightens their days when they get to spend time with him. “They come out of their bubble when they see him,” explains student mentor Ellie Edmundson. “And everybody’s just all smiling.”
