Daily Do Good: Home Destroyed By Cali Wildfires But Family Dog Found Alive

When Jack Weaver and his brother-in-law went to check his parents’ Santa Rosa home after wildfires swept through Northern California, they expected to find the body of the beloved family dog, Izzy. As the men walked past police barricades and up treacherous, hilly roads, they saw the destruction in the neighborhood and the house was completely gone, but Izzy ran up to greet them.

The ferocious fire hadn’t killed the precious pet and finding her alive and in good spirits was a bit of good news. The Weavers, like a lot of folks, didn’t have time to find their pets in the frantic, chaotic minutes they had to gather their things and escape. So they feared the worst for their dog and were so thrilled to be wrong.

“She was very happy to see us,” Weaver says of Izzy, a 9-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog. “She’s such a brave dog. She was panting a lot and clearly stressed. But she was not frantic or anything.”
