Daily Do Good: Clothing Drive Helps Harvey Victims Find Homecoming Dresses

Thanks to the kindness of strangers, some Texas teenagers who didn’t have dresses for their high school Homecoming events after Hurricane Harvey will now be decked out in style at their dance. A clothing drive was organized by 15-year-old Ashley Reel from Spring, Texas, near Houston, and she thought her social media campaign would be small, but they ended up with 3,000 beautiful dresses.

The dresses have been donated from people across the U.S. who wanted to make sure these students didn’t miss out on this rite of passage because of the destruction of the storm. Volunteers helped teen girls find homecoming gowns from the thousands of choices and without that opportunity, some girls may not have been able to attend the homecoming dance.

“I am very happy to get this dress,” explains 14-year-old student Shyanne Prothro. “It was like a dream come true.”
