Daily Do Good: America’s Oldest Veteran Gets Needed Home Repairs

We previously told you about Richard Overton, America’s oldest World War II veteran who turned 111 back in May. Well now he’s the latest recipient of the Meals on Wheels Central Texas’ Home Repair Program. The Home Depot Foundation works with the organization to provide veterans with home repairs to make their homes safer, all free of charge.

Overton has been living in his Austin, Texas home since 1948, so it needs the original wiring replaced, central heating and air conditioning, wider doors, and they’re installing laminate floors to reduce the chance of tripping. In two weeks, these repairs will be done and Overton’s home will be much safer and more comfortable.

“We’re honored and pleased to provide the necessary repairs to help him live there independently,” says Adam Hauser, president and CEO of Meals on Wheels Central Texas. “He’s an icon in our community.”
