Retired Marine Corporal Tim Donley has been managing in a small apartment with his wife Kelly, but it hasn’t been easy since he lost his legs in Afghanistan. But now the veteran has been given an amazing gift: a brand new handicapped-accessible smart home in Pennsylvania that’ll make everyday life so much easier for him.
The house was donated to Donley by The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The group’s mission is to honor the sacrifice of Stephen Siller, who died helping others on September 11, 2001. They have a program that helps build smart homes for service members who’ve been injured like Donley.
Now he’ll have automated appliances controlled by an iPad, pull-down cabinets and drawers, and a roll-in shower, so he can get in and out in his wheelchair. Donley says his favorite part of the new house is “it’s such an incredible place and it’s ours.”
