Daily Do Good: Neighbors Help With Halloween-Themed Party For Sick Kid

It was Halloween in May for one California community who came together to celebrate Carter Sarkar’s fifth birthday. The little boy hasSanfilippo syndrome, a rare genetic condition that causes fatal brain damage. And he’s been asking to go trick-or-treating for months, so his parents threw him a Halloween-themed party, with the help of friends and neighbors.

Carter is likely to start feeling the effects of his disease, like seizures and losing the ability to walk, in the near future, so this was a wonderful way to celebrate. In addition to candy, houses in the neighborhood gave the boy high fives, hugs, and plenty of birthday presents.

“Carter loves to say hi and meet people. It was about him, and he was excited to go to each and every house,” his mom, Jen Sarkar, explains. “Everyone had a smile on their face, everyone was enjoying the day. It was a really great birthday for him.”
