Doctors Push For Warning Labels On Avocados

Unless you have an allergy to avocados, you wouldn’t think there were many issues in eating the key ingredient to guacamole. But it turns out avocados can be dangerous and doctors are so concerned, they think a warning label should be put on them.

In case you missed it, something called “avocado hand” is on the rise, which is when folks injure themselves as they try to cut into an avocados’ rubbery skin to take out the pit, and some docs think something should be done about it.

Apparently, so many people have cut themselves working with avocados that the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons wants a warning label put on the fruit, with doctors at London’s St. Thomas Hospital saying they get a “post brunch surge” of injuries related to avocados on Saturdays.

“We don’t want to put people off the fruit, but I think warning labels are an effective way of dealing with this,” surgeon Simon Eccles tells the "Times of London." “Perhaps we could have a cartoon picture of an avocado with a knife, and a big red cross going through it?”
