Daily Do Good: Strangers Crowdfund For Oldest Living WWII Veteran

At 110, Richard Overton is believed to be the oldest World War II veteran in the U.S. and thanks to many generous donations, he’ll going to be able to stay in his Austin, Texas home for at least a few more months. So far, over $133,000 has been raised through a GoFundMecampaign, with a goal of $150,000.

Overton has been living in his beloved home for more than 70 years, but when his caretaker started having issues related to her own aging, his family was afraid they’d need to move the vet to an assisted living facility. “We all knew that if you move Richard out of his home, he’d die,” his cousin Volma Overton, Jr. says. “That home is everything for him.”

So his family created the crowdfunding campaign to raise money to get Overton around-the-clock in-home care. And with the money they’ve gotten so far, he’ll be able to stay another seven months! We hope the funds keep coming in to help this veteran stay in the home he knows and loves for as long as he’s walking, talking, and enjoying it.
