DDG: Iowa Boy Clears Snow From Fire Hydrant, Helping Save Lives Next Day

Last week, a nine-year-old boy in Fort Dodge, Iowa, responded to a request from the local fire department for residents to clear three feet of snow from around the town’s fire hydrants. Colton Holmes removed deep snow from around a hydrant in his neighborhood as part of the community effort and that same hydrant was used the very next day to help put out a nearby fire, saving valuable time during the emergency. Colton was recognized with a fire department patch, a challenge coin, and even got a ride to school in a fire truck.
