Daily Do Good: Olympic Kite Surfer Saves Woman Drowning In Sea

Last Friday, Brazilian Olympic kite surfer Bruno Lobo performed a heroic rescue while training off the coast of São Luís. While testing a new camera setup on a cloudy afternoon, he heard cries for help and spotted a woman struggling in the surf. He quickly boarded over to the woman, calmed her down, and then used his kite to carry her on his back to the shore, where lifeguards met him and provided first aid to the swimmer. Fortunately, the woman was unharmed in the incident and she expressed heartfelt gratitude for Lobo’s bravery.

A two-time Pan American Games gold medalist in the Formula Kite Class and an orthopedic doctor, Lobo captured the rescue on video and shared it on social media, crediting his faith for his heroic act in the post. The video, which shows the rescue and the woman reuniting with friends on the beach, has been widely praised, with messages commending his selfless act.

Reflecting on the incident, Lobo warns others about the dangers of strong ocean currents and shares his gratitude for being able to help. His courageous act has gone viral globally, earning the Olympian admiration for his athletic prowess and upstanding character.
