Darby Jackson, a 14-year-old from Daviess County, Kentucky, recently saved her mom’s life during a terrifying medical emergency. Katie Harris, a single mom of four, blacked out while driving Darby home from school. Acting quickly, the teen steered the car safely off the road, called 911, and followed the dispatcher’s instructions to keep her mother stable until paramedics arrived.
The mom later learned she has a rare heart arrhythmia that likely caused her cardiac arrest. She’s still undergoing testing to find out more about her health and in the meantime, Darby and her siblings have stepped up to help their mom at home.
Katie expressed deep gratitude for her children, saying they are her reason to keep fighting. She’s also crediting Darby’s quick thinking with saving her life, saying she wouldn’t have been able to call for help on her own.
