DDG: Husband Pays For 40 Shelter Pet Adoptions For Wife’s 40th Bday Gift

Chesapeake, Virginia, couple Andrew and Jennifer Duhe have been volunteering together at Chesapeake Animal Services for over a year. Jennifer says that their time at the adoption center has been beneficial both for the animals and for their relationship, joking that it’s “a cost-effective alternative to marriage therapy.” The couple, who are also pet owners, have recently been grieving the unexpected loss of one of their dogs, which Jennifer said has been particularly hard for her.

To lift her spirits for her 40th birthday, Andrew came up with a heartfelt idea inspired by his wife’s love for animals: he decided to pay for the adoption fees of 40 pets at the shelter in her honor. He says the gesture reflects Jennifer’s deep compassion for animals and is a meaningful way to celebrate her milestone birthday. She calls the gift incredibly thoughtful, saying it aligns perfectly with her values and means a great deal to her.

Chesapeake Animal Services shares that 10 of the 40 adoptions have already been paid for, thanks to Andrew’s generous gift. The couple hopes that covering the costs will help more animals find homes faster. Jennifer’s birthday wish is that more people will visit the shelter and adopt, saying, “I just want them all to have homes.”
