Last Thursday, FedEx driver Adonis Whitner was making a delivery to a home in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, when he went into cardiac arrest and passed out on the home’s front lawn. The incident was captured on homeowner Mark Macala’s doorbell camera.
Macala’s neighbor, Pennsylvania State Senator Devlin Robinson, happened to be stopping by his house and rushed to help after noticing the situation. While Macala called 911, Robinson turned Whitner onto his back and cleared his airway. The Senator then began performing chest compressions until first responders arrived a few minutes later and took over care.
Whitner was taken to St. Clair Hospital, where he’s expected to face a long recovery. A crowdfund has been started to help support his family while he works to get back on his feet. For his part, Macala is thankful that he was home when the package arrived and that his neighbor just happened to come by at that moment. "As you start to replay things in your head, it was a miracle all these things happened,” Macala says, “I hope it's all for the best."
