DDG: NYPD Officers Rescue Blind Senior Dog From Drowning In Freezing Pond

Earlier this week, an eight-year-old blind border collie named Sparky was out walking with his owner in Queens, New York, when the pup got stuck in some reeds in a freezing pond. Fortunately, a pair of New York Police Department officers responded to the call for help and saved the senior dog.

Officers Branden Williams and Marc Esposito arrived at Baisley Pond Park near JFK Airport and quickly assessed Sparky’s predicament. The kind cops then entered the icy water and Esposito carried the soggy pup back to the shore. Then they loaded Sparky into the back of their cruiser, covered him up with one of their jackets and took him to a local veterinarian to get checked out, before he was reunited with his grateful owner.

The whole incident was captured on Officer Esposito's bodycam and shared by the NYPD on social media. Commenters to the post heaped praise on the officers for going above the call of duty. There’s no doubt that the officers earned every bit of the praise and that Sparky’s only alive today because of their actions.
