DDG: Firefighters Rescue Six Kids By Rappelling Down Elevator Shaft

A daring rescue saved six kids who were trapped in an elevator in New Jersey. The group of children, all around 13 years old, were stuck in the elevator at the Rockin’ Jump Trampoline Park in Wayne on Friday afternoon.

According to Wayne Police, the elevator became stuck near the ground floor of the building and the doors wouldn’t open. A tech came out, but was unable to reset the elevator and multiple fire companies were called in to help. With temperatures rising to dangerous levels inside the elevator car, authorities decided to do a rope rescue to get the kids out.

Emergency responders had to rappel down the elevator shaft, two firefighters were lowered down to the elevator car, then they hoisted the kids up to the second floor one at a time. Police say the kids were checked out at an ambulance, but no one was hurt in the incident and all of the kids were safely reunited with their guardians.
