Consumer Group Warns That Flood-Damaged Vehicles Entering Used-Car Market

After record flooding this year, including places that usually don’t have to deal with floods, customers need to be on the lookout for flood damaged cars on the used car market. The U.S. Public Interest Research Group said yesterday that thousands of cars and trucks are for sale, and you should check for signs of flood damage before buying.

How do you check? The group says to look for moisture build up in the headlights and check for the smell of mold; they also say you may want to have a professional inspect a car before you buy it. The National Insurance Crime Bureau also warned customers last month to watch for flood-damaged cars on the market.
