Daily Do Good: Friendly Bet Leads To $40K “Giving Spree”

What started out as a friendly wager between two businesses in Missouri snowballed into a fundraiser for a good cause. Reggie AuBuchon, owner of Bryant Restoration, reached out to his biggest rival in business, Servpro of Farmington, to see if they wanted to bet $500 on local rival football teams playing their season-opener game. Servpro accepted the bet, raising it to $5-thousand, with the winner donating the money to charity.

Then, instead of making it a competition, the companies decided to work together and use this as an opportunity to raise money for the St. Francois County Shop with a Cop program, which gives kids from low-income families a $100 shopping spree at Walmart during the holidays. Community members kicked in donations and local businesses got in on the giving, too. And in the end, nearly $40-thousand was raised for Shop with a Cop.

“It turned into a really great thing,” AuBuchon says. “It's really all about the kids at the end of the day.”
