Daily Do Good: Deputy Saves Teen Trying To Jump From Overpass

Law enforcement officers in Florida worked together to prevent what could have been a Father’s Day tragedy. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office reports they received a call from a mother at 6am Sunday morning saying her 17-year-old daughter was threatening self-harm and left home. They headed to the location where she was expected to be and found her on an overpass bridge of Interstate 95.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene and after being informed that the girl doesn’t like men, they worked to get a female negotiation team to her rescue. Deputy Jenkins and Detective Roseanna Vinci negotiated with the teen for hours and in the end, Deputy Jenkins was able to grab her hand and secure her to the handrail with handcuffs. The rescue team then got her to the ground safely using a fire engine ladder.

“This is an outstanding rescue by all agencies involved," Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said. "The quick response and combined efforts of FCSO deputies, Crisis Negotiations, Communications Center, Fire Rescue, and the deputies holding the juvenile’s hand saved a life today.”
