DDG: Woman Donates Kidney To Cop Who Locked Her Up

A retired police officer needed a kidney transplant and he found a donor in an unexpected person: a woman he had thrown in jail several times. Terrell Potter had locked up Jocelynn James a few times in Alabama while she battled an opioid addiction. She credits him with helping to turn her life around and she’s now been sober for years.

So when James found out Potter needed a kidney donor, she rushed to help him. And it turns out, she was a perfect match. The two had a successful transplant in July and they’re both doing well.

“If you asked me 100 names of who may give me a kidney, her name would have not been on the list,” Potter says. “It’s just unbelievable that she was willing to do that.”
