DDG: Boy Scout Plays Taps Nightly At NJ Veterans Home Hit By Coronavirus

For more than a month, a Boy Scout has been playing taps every night outside a New Jersey nursing home where more than 100 veterans have died during the coronavirus crisis. Alex Saldana is a 13-year-old bugler for his troop and he was looking for ways to honor vets in his community.

On April 8th he heard that 37 residents died from COVID-19 complications at the Paramus Veterans Memorial Home, he grabbed his trumpet and started playing each night. The eighth grader wanted to provide comfort to residents and their loved ones and continued his tribute until Memorial Day. Now he plans to come by and play outside the nursing home at least once a week.

"I'm glad I got to play a small part in honoring our veterans during this sad time," Alex says.
