Alabama Passes 'Chemical Castration' Law for Some Sex Offenders

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey is putting her signature on a bill that requires some sex offenders to undergo chemical castration. The measure says sex offenders whose victims are under 13 years old need to take medication that block the production of testosterone as a condition of their parole. Treatments will begin at least one month before an inmate is released on parole. State Representative Steve Hurst sponsored the bill. He believes it will deter people from committing sex crimes against children.
