Daily Do Good: Bar Bouncer Saves Life Of Party Bike Accident Victim

A bouncer at a bar in Scottsdale, Arizona, became a hero over the weekend when he rushed to help a young man involved in a party bicycle accident. Sumo Ramirez was working out front at Goodwood Tavern on Saturday night when he noticed a multi-person party bike stopped in the middle of the road and all the riders hopped off quickly. He ran over to find out what happened and saw someone was seriously injured.

Ramirez realized the young man’s foot had become stuck in the wheel well of the bicycle and was nearly torn off. The victim was losing a lot of blood quickly and was fading in and out of consciousness, but the bouncer is a former firefighter and veteran, so he was trained for emergencies like this. “I decided to go ahead and take off my belt and I started a tourniquet on the upper part of the thigh,” he recalls, “And gave direction as to what the other males should be doing.”

Police report that the victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but the outcome may have been much worse if Ramirez hadn’t stepped in to save him. While he’s getting a lot of recognition and thanks for his efforts, he plays down his role in the emergency. “To be honest, I feel kind of awkward,” he says. “So many people are saying I’m a hero or whatnot, but I’m just me. I’m just Sumo.”
