Daily Do Good: Pilot & Dog Survive Plane Crash In Ocean, Swim To Shore

It could have been a tragedy, but a man and his dog are safe after the small plane they were in crashed into the Pacific Ocean. The unnamed man was flying the single-engine aircraft when it hit the water and his dog was the only one with him.

Not only did they survive, they weren’t hurt and were able to swim to shore. Fortunately, when the plane went down on Sunday afternoon off the coast of Rancho Palos Verdes, they were only about 150 to 200 yards from shore. A witness to the crash called authorities and the Special Enforcement Bureau of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department sent out its Air Rescue 5 team and medics to the scene.

The department later reported that the pilot and his dog made it to shore and U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson Edward Wargo also confirmed that the man and the dog were “able to safely swim to shore.” No update has been given on their condition after the accident, which is under investigation, but the Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed that the man was “uninjured.”
