Boscov's East & Exeter Community Library "B the Reader Rewards Program"

Boscov’s East & Exeter Community Library Present ‘B the Reader’ Rewards Program

Boscov’s East and the Exeter Community Library are teaming up this spring to create a new program that encourages reading among children ages 5-18. The program is called ‘B the Reader’ and asks children or their guardians to fill out a reading log in exchange for a free breakfast voucher at The Restaurant at Boscov’s East. Children who redeem their breakfast voucher also get entered into a raffle for a $25 Boscov’s gift card.

Nicole Blanski, Regional Manager of Public Relations & Special Events reached out to library Executive Director Mallory Hoffman with the concept a few months ago and Hoffman agreed to implement the incentive program.

Rewards for reading isn’t a new idea. In fact, it drives a large part of the library’s Summer Reading Program for both children and adults, but Mark Graboski, The Restaurant at Boscov’s East Manager, wanted to offer a year-round program for school-aged children and teens, and one that would benefit both Boscov’s and the library.

Hoffman says she’s excited about the program and hopes it encourages children and their parents to check out books and graphic novels—both of which count toward the reading log. Logged books aren’t required to be checked out from the library, however. Students are encouraged to read and record books from home, books borrowed from friends, or books from school. “As long as they’re reading, we’ve achieved our goal,” says Hoffman.
